The New Star Wars Droid Is Yours To Own, But Is It Worth $249.99?

BB-8 was arguably the breakout star of the Star Wars: Episode VII trailer.

Women want to play with him, men want to play with him and everyone wants to know what kind of a dude he is – he has ‘masculine programming’ fyi – like, what’s his vibe? What’s he into?

J.J. Abrams christened him BB-8 because he clearly looks like a lil’ number 8 and Mark Hamill said after meeting him: “They never cease to amaze me with what they’re able to come up with, you know? I said, ‘How are you ever gonna top R2-D2, the most adorable droid in movie history?’”

Given the incredible characters and subsequent merch that has already come from the Star Wars universe, it’s safe to say people are going to go batshit for BB-8. We were lucky enough to meet up with Jim Booth, the COO of Sphero – the company that managed to get a meeting with Disney and within four hours had sent back a prototype and landed the gig.

Throughout our magical journey of discovery we found out BB-8 reacts to voice commands, you can create and view holographic recordings and you can also guide him yourself via phone or let him patrol your home autonomously ^___^
