The New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Beer Tastes Like Vengeance … Also Beer

There is a new Game Of Thrones beer on the market, and it tastes like VENGEANCE … and also a little bit like rich, roasted malt and sweet raisins, but mostly VENGEANCE!

The beer, named Valar Morghulis, comes from the Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, New York, and is actually the fourth Game Of Thrones-inspired tipple they’ve released so far. The saying ‘valar morghulis’ means ‘all men must die’ in George R.R. Martin‘s fictional language of High Valyrian, and has been something of a recurring motif in recent episodes of the show.

The saying is closely associated with vengeance, so in order to reflect it, the brewers at Ommegang chose a Belgian-style Dubbel. They say that the flavour captures “the sweetness of revenge as well as the dangerous consequences that come with it.” Also, y’know, beer. It tastes like beer, and people love beer, so they’re probably on a bit of a winner anyway.

Beer aficionados say that a Belgian Dubbel is best sipped slowly, and goes well paired with a plate of creamy cheese, or some tender lamb chops with a topping of wild mushrooms. For a true Game Of Thrones experience, you should ideally kill the lamb and harvest the wild mushrooms yourself, but maybe leave the creamy cheese to the experts, because eww.

If you can’t get enough gimmicky drinks down your gullet, then you’ll also want to look out for the official Simpsons-branded Duff Beer that’s launching in Australia later this month.
