It’s here, folks. The day we’ve been dreading since 2011, when we first got hooked on the incest-tits-and-dragons fantasy juggernaut that is ‘Game of Thrones‘. Today is the day our watch(ing) ends: we’re about to cop the last ever episode.
(Not counting the multiple spinoffs that have been greenlit, obviously, but that’s a whole ‘nother story.)
The show’s stars are turning out on social media in droves to share memories and tearful farewells to the job that kept them busy for a whole decade.
Check Emilia Clark‘s emotional parting words, via Instagram:
How small words feel in comparison to what this show and Dany have meant to me.
The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart. I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice.
Game of Thrones has shaped me as a woman, as an actor and as a human being. I just wish my darling dad was here now to see how far we’ve flown.
But to you, dear kind magical fans, I owe you so much thanks, for your steady gaze at what we’ve made and what I’ve done with a character that was already in the hearts of many before I slipped on the platinum wig of dreams.
And Jacob Anderson, aka Grey Worm, bidding a fond goodbye to his smouldering Unsullied character:
2/3 Here’s to every single department behind the scenes who worked tirelessly everyday to make this thing, and they never get shout outs and they know that but they do it anyway. Here’s to you, you ragtag bunch of talented clever rascals. I love ya’ll. Thank you.

3/3 Grey Worm. You went from a robot to a real boy. I’m proud of you. I’ll miss you bud. Thank you to everybody that cared about him and rooted for him. He was really scared at first, but you made him feel loved. He appreciates it. I asked him.
Here’s me on my 1st and last day. pic.twitter.com/ivNUNVd1vC

“You went from a robot to a real boy.” :'((((
Give a round of applause for Tormund, who finally got to cosy up with the big woman!
And look it’s Sam! Is he going to be in this episode or was that gruff goodbye at Winterfell really the unceremonious end for his whole arc?
A quick moment to recognise how wild it is that Sophie Turner started playing Sansa Stark when she was just THIRTEEN:
Uh, thanks, Euron:
This is the end!!! #GameOfThronesFinale

And how are the smallfolk coping with the end of a show that’s captivated millions of viewers for the better part of ten years? Memes, mostly.

The only satisfying conclusion to Game of Thrones is if it ends with a Tormund bottle episode, where he’s up north, just chilling and getting over Brienne, really starting to take care of himself

Whatever you think of the end of Game of Thrones, we can all agree the series as a whole has been a staggering accomplishment. A while ago, it would have been unthinkable to contemplate telling a single 10-year fantasy story on TV. pic.twitter.com/Ew8yiLhfpn

Until you can settle yourself with a box of tissues, a bowl of popcorn and a stressball or twenty to watch the last ep with, content yourself with knowing that pretty much every cast member had a big cry on their last day of shooting.
