The Island Location For ‘Australian Survivor’ May Have Been Revealed

Network Ten has had a successful year on the reality TV front, smashing it with both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, hitting ratings highs for Masterchef in its seventh season and proving that large numbers of Aussies will tune in to see quasi-famous people stranded in remote jungles.
This year, they are hoping to add to that success with a new season of Australian Survivor, a show that has previously been passed around like a hot potato by the major commercial networks, airing a debut season on Nine in 2002 before switching to Seven for a celebrity version in 2006.
Overnight, News Corp chucked a log on to the fire of anticipation by revealing what is likely to be the location of the new Australian Survivor – the island of Pulau Tiga, off the coast of Malaysia.
This particular island has quite a storied history with the franchise, as it was used as the location for the very first U.S. season of Survivor, all the way back in the more innocent time of 2000.
The location is no accident, as Ten are determined to make the show a success by hewing as close to the American version as possible – at 31 seasons and counting, it’s safe to say they’re on a winning formula.
Ten’s chief programming officer Beverly McGarvey has said that producers of the American version will be “really involved” in the Aussie one, to bring their expertise to the table.
Per reports, the show is likely to start filming around March, and air in the latter half of the year. We are beyond ready.
