‘The Block’: Like A Non-Load-Bearing Wall, Andrew & Whitney Have Split

The current season of The Block seems like it has specifically been calibrated to wear its contestants down as much as possible via time and budget constraints, and as the finale looms, one of the renovating couples has officially called it quits.

Earlier today, Whitney Nolan confirmed that, much like a used Good Guys voucher, she and Andrew Simmons are spent, having called their relationship off in the final week of filming the series.
“Officially it has just ended, but in my eyes it was weeks ago, when we started working on the communal level,” she told news and current affairs magazine Woman’s Day, in an exclusive interview about the breakup.
She added that Andrew’s tendency to wear his heart on his sleeve – which is about as diplomatic a way as you can put that – and his inability to “man up and take control” wore her down, saying:
“If anything I’m grateful to The Block and what’s come out of it. It would have happened in the future anyway, it’s just something which progressed a lot faster because you do learn things about people so fast in high-pressure situations. I thank The Block because what’s the point of wasting time with someone you’re not going to be with forever? I’m single and ready to mingle!”

Simmons, who was also interviewed for the piece, said:

“We certainly did want to take our relationship to the next step. I’ll still be there for her no matter what.”

The auctions for The Block‘s hastily-renovated South Yarra apartments were held on Saturday, and the results will be announced in the show’s season finale, this Wednesday.

Andrew and Whitney (who met on Tinder, in case you didn’t catch it when The Block reminded us every other episode) have announced that they’ll split any profits from the auction 50/50.
