‘The Block’: Andrew & Whitney Got So Much Hate, They Received Counselling

The Block‘s casting department must have cracked the champers when they found Andrew Simmons and Whitney Nolan, a couple of amateur renovators so amateur that they guarantee television gold every week.

From the destroyed concrete slabs to Whitney’s epic “go pop your tits” fight with Suzi to the couple’s refusal to budge an inch (or 100mm) to accommodate their upstairs neighbours’ plumbing requirements, they never fail to bring the drama.
Over the weekend, however, the couple revealed that the large amounts of hate they’ve been receiving on social media have been getting them down, to the point where they’ve been receiving counselling.
In an interview with News Corp, Nolan said:
“People are saying very nasty stuff. A couple of weeks ago it was really getting us down. After The Block finishes, Channel 9 offers counselling and we have taken them up on that. It’s a different world. We are just normal people doing this experience. You can never prepare yourself for the things you hear being said about you.”
On partner Andrew, who has visibly been having a tough time with the show’s strict requirements, Nolan said:
“Everyone can see that Andrew has really struggled, he wasn’t 100 per cent himself. He was just trying to get through each day as it comes, he was struggling a bit with depression. For me the whole thing just brought us closer together.”
On the subject of Suzi Taylor, who told Whitney to ‘go have another burger’ during one of their many skirmishes, it seems like the animosity between them is fairly geniune:

“I think we are just two different people and that’s all it is. I’ve worked with women for so long being a beauty therapist, an I think I have this gift of being able to see right through what people are like. Unfortunately, Suzi is not the kind of person I want to be around. As for everyone else, they are beautiful.”
On last night’s kitchen reveal, Kingi and Caro smashed it yet again. The Block continues tonight.
