Sorry Folks, Judd Apatow Reckons A ‘Freaks & Geeks’ Revival Is V. Unlikely

On January 18 2016, we brought you the news that Freaks & Geeks mastermind Judd Apatow was toying with the idea of reviving the show. The man who helped launch the careers of James Franco, Jason Segel, and Seth Rogen said “you never know. It could happen.”

Well, almost exactly a year later, Apatow has a new take on the matter. According to him, the goddamn quintessential coming-of-age classic is more than likely donezo – and you can partially blame technology for that, you self-defeating millennials.

Speaking at a Television Critics Association event recently, Apatow reckoned “I don’t want to do more Freaks & Geeks because we liked how it ended, so I feel it’s unwrapping something and seeing if you can not screw it up; I don’t think we would do that.”

“Also, the world has changed so much. Back then in 1999, we were talking about the pre-computer and cellphone age that was before YouTube, Google, Snapchat

“I don’t close the door on anything but my inclination is that we said all we had to say.”
Maybe, just maybe, the man is right: sure, it’d be grouse to see whatever happened to Daniel, Lizzie, Sam and Co., but the emotionally honest sitcom genre ain’t exactly lacking for content right now.
Either way, you’ll have to excuse us while we rewatch the classic, which is somehow on YouTube in its entirety:
