Socceroos Knocked Out of the World Cup After 3-0 Loss to Spain

Well, that was fun while it lasted.

Australia‘s World Cup hopes are officially dashed, after a 3-0 defeat by reigning champions Spain. It was The Socceroos‘ third loss, following defeats by Chile and The Netherlands, meaning that our team are officially heading home from the competition.

“It was disappointing,” coach Ange Postecoglou said of the loss. “They dominated after the first 15 minutes and we struggled to get into the game. There were a few tired legs out there. They had put a lot of effort in the previous two games and it probably just caught up with them.”

This has been an amazing year for Australia at the FIFA World Cup, filled with bus backlash and Tony Abbott gaffes and also, y’know, some kicking of some balls around some fields, but now it’s all coming to an end. So long, World Cup! See you in Russia in 2018, maybe!
