Britney Spears’ boyfriend has spoken out in a scathing attack against her dad and conservator Jamie Spears in the wake of the Framing Britney Spears documentary.

Sam Asghari, 27,  didn’t take part in the documentary himself, but has since taken to Instagram to express his lack of respect for Britney’s dad, who has long been accused of trying to keep her in the conservatorship that she perhaps doesn’t need.

“Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles in our way,” he wrote. “In my opinion, Jamie is a total dick.”

“I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time, I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom,” he wrote.

As far as we can tell, this is the first time Sam has publicly spoken out against Jamie Spears, or Britney’s conservatorship.

Sam also spoke exclusively to PEOPLE Magazine about his “better half” in the wake of the documentary.

“I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves,” he said. “I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together.”

While he doesn’t stand legally accused of any wrongdoing, activists in the #FreeBritney movement have alleged that Jamie is unfairly controlling and profiting off Britney’s conservatorship.

As it currently stands, a judge has still ruled that she needs a conservator, but many critics have pointed out that someone who is able to perform a sold-out Las Vegas residency is probably functioning at a high enough level to make basic life decisions for herself.
