Rebel Wilson Cast In Michael Bay’s Bodybuilding Comedy

This is a bit of an odd fit. Rebel Wilson – who you’ll remember as the scene-stealing Brynn in Bridesmaids – has been cast alongside DwayneI’m a serious actor don’t call me The RockJohnson, Mark Wahlberg and swimsuit model Bar Paly in Michael Bay’s bodybuilding comedy Pain and Gain.

Bay, who has just announced his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles project, was also responsible for each iteration of the Transformers franchise, as well as blockbuster action flicks like Bad Boys, Armageddon and Coyote Ugly. Pain and Gain is based on a true-to-life incident and follows a – what’s the collective noun for a group of bodybuilders? A Schwarzenegger? – of bodybuilders who become entangled in a kidnapping and extortion plot that [OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS SPOILER ALERT] does not end well. Wilson will star as Ramona Eldridge, who also ends up in the big house for her involvement in the scheme, although probably not in the same cell as Wahlberg.

Alumni of Australian television – ahem – highlights, including The Wedge and Bogan Pride, Wilson has got a pretty busy schedule lined up for the remainder of the year, including appearances in American pregnancy guide adaptation What To Expect When You’re Expecting, Chris Colfer’s Struck By Lightening, Sundance hit Bachelorette, and a voice appearance in the next Ice Age flick. Oh and there’s that sitcom she’s producing with Conan O’Brien, Super Fun Night. Girl is biz-zay.
