Rebel Wilson Lands Her First Starring Role In ‘Private Benjamin’ Remake

Fans of Rebel Wilson’s indeterminate American accent [that’s you!] will no doubt derive a great deal of pleasure from news that she’s been cast in a remake of Private Benjamin, originally a Nancy Meyers fish-out-of-water comedy from 1980 starring Goldie Hawn as a woman who enlists in the army when her husband dies mid-coitus on their wedding night. ~Sexy.~
Drawing from an inexhaustible well of bogan pedigree that’ll never run dry and from which she built her career with shows like Fat Pizza, regular Pizza and The Wedge, Wilson will play a redneck who enlists in the U.S. Marines to get out of a tricky situation with the help of a ‘rich city girl’ who will, no doubt, at first appear standoffish before being won over by Wilson’s particular brand of uncouth, self-deprecating comedy and winning outlook on life. It sounds like it’ll be a buddy comedy of sorts, with a whole lotta heart, lessons about perseverance and maybe some running, both horizontal and vertical.
You’ll next be able to catch Wilson reprising her role as Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect 2, for which she’s currently in the studio layin’ down tracks and taking approximately zero prisoners.

How good are 80s trailers’ voiceovers though?
