If the internet had one purpose, and that purpose was to superimpose one pop-culture reference over another pop-culture reference, and it fulfilled that purpose every day from now until forever, then the internet would be nothing more or less than the joy of an in-joke shared with 100s of 1000s of people across the globe.
But, for better or worse, the internet is not a giant self-fulfilling punch-line factory, although it does from time-to-time bring us the occasional bit of comedic gold amongst the troll sludge.
