Pixar Announces New Films

Yes, soon you’ll be able to get the taste of Cars 2 right out of your mouth.

Pixar has announced a film with a 2013 release to be directed by Up! co-director Bob Peterson, that explores what would have happened if the asteroid believed to have hit Earth, precipitating the extinction of the dinosaurs, had missed, and they lived on to this day. Awesome. We’re expecting at least one Rex the Dinosaur reference.

Given that Pixar is known for referring to its own (and sometimes upcoming) titles in other films, perhaps we should also be looking out for some hints in Brave, which comes out in mid-2012. Brave, which will be in 3D, tells the story of Scottish warrior Princess Merida (Kelly MacDonald, No Country For Old Men, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2), a skilled archer who accidentally unleashes evil forces in the kingdom and basically has to fix that shit, learning a lot about bravery on the way, while a new generation of girls will learn about strong female protagonists. Nice one. The film also stars comedian Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson (Love Actually, Nanny McPhee), Robbie Coltrane (Cracker, the Harry Potter series), Julie Walters (Mamma Mia, Billy Elliot, the Harry Potter series), Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting, Grey’s Anatomy) and TV host Craig Ferguson.

Yet another film, to be released in 2014, will explore the human mind, investigating ear worms and that kinda jive. It will be directed by Peter Docter, who did Up! and Monsters Inc.
