‘OITNB’ Star Taryn Manning Got Locked Up IRL, Is Now Suing For $10m

In a case of life sorta vaguely and bizarrely imitating art, Orange Is The New Black star Taryn Manning was handcuffed and taken into custody, and is now suing the city of New York for $US 10 million, claiming false imprisonment.
The incident occurred in November 2014, when the star – who plays god-fearing former meth head / generally intense individual Tiffany ‘Pennsatucky’ Doggett on the show – was meeting with police and her lawyer to discuss an alleged stalking incident.
Manning was being questioned over allegations that she had sent “threatening” text messages to a former associate, a woman who had been arrested twice for allegedly “stalking” the star, and who would later be imprisoned herself.
The actress claims that she was arrested at the conclusion of the meeting, in spite of assurances from the Manhattan DA’s office that she would not be prosecuted. In a sworn affidavit, she said:

“The meeting ended when I was handcuffed by a detective and locked in a small room adjacent to the interview room. Approximately 20 minutes later, I was removed … still handcuffed and marched through the precinct. I was processed and ultimately placed in a holding cell.”
Manning was imprisoned for several hours, and while her arrest was voided and sealed upon release, details of it still emerged to the media, and she is now taking legal action.
The actress is currently seeking damages including “attorney’s fees, hours of detention, emotional distress and reputational harm”, but as she failed to act against the city within 90 days, she is currently seeking permission to file a late notice of claim.
Last month, Manning faced allegations that she assaulted her former makeup artist, who claimed, amongst other things, that the star had whipped her with a wet towel, and sprayed Windex in her eyes and mouth.
It’s a weird time to be Taryn Manning.
