Oh good lord, now Sex and the City actor Willie Garson – who played Carrie Bradshaw‘s best gay pal Stanford Blatch, setting the trope for single women’s best gal pals everywhere – has jumped into the Kim Cattrall v. SATC fray.
If you’re not up to date with that whole drama, the short story is that a report alleging Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, torpedoed any possibility of a third SATC movie set off a chain of events of bickering and sniping from either side.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie, later confirmed the film was not happening and expressed her disappointment, which led Cattrall to explain, in no uncertain terms, that she had never wanted to do the film in the first place. She also said that her relationship with SATC producers felt “toxic”, given the way these negotiations played out in the press.
“And usually what happens in a healthy relationship is that someone, or a transaction for a job in my business, is that someone says, ‘Are you available?’ and you say ‘yes’ and here’s the job and you say, ‘Yes, but thank you very much but I’m sort of over here right now but thank you very much’ and that person turns to you and they say, ‘That’s great, good luck to you, I wish you the best.’
“But that’s not what happened here. This feels like a toxic relationship.”
Of course, plenty of media outlets ran with something along the lines of, ‘KIM CATTRALL CALLS ‘SEX AND THE CITY’ / SARAH JESSICA PARKER “TOXIC”‘, which isn’t *quite* what she meant, but isn’t entirely untrue, either. It’s a tricky one.
Garson appeared to take offence there, sending a tweet insinuating that the Daily Mail‘s initial report – that Cattrall’s “diva” behaviour and insistence that the studio finance other projects of her’s in exchange for doing the film – was correct.

Facts are just so much better and more respectful than lies. Every time.

He then responded to several fans asking if SATC could simply go ahead without Cattrall, saying that it was essentially all or bust.
All or none, as it should be.

Never, ALL integral pieces of a puzzle. Flawlessly played by all. https://t.co/pe18NUT7tU

Not true, all for one and one for all, and all terrific and perfectly cast and played. https://t.co/XRp6aih2O2

But some of his other tweets just get insanely passive-aggressive; he even got into an argument with a fan about his involvement in the spat in the first place.
To spread happiness, lift spirits, provide comfort and humanity, especially during troubled times, is a gift that should never be squandered

Excuse me?

Excuse me, when did I talk “shit”? Been called toxic and lied about, when did any of us talk shit?

Cattrall hasn’t responded to Garson’s tweets, and appears to be living her life exactly as she pleases.
As she said in an earlier interview about this whole mess: “This is what my 60s are about; they’re about me making decisions for me not my career, for me. And that feels frickin’ fantastic.”
