Nicholas Hoult Reveals That A Bad Fake Tan Cost Him The Role Of Jon Snow

Nicholas Hoult

Actors try out and get knocked back for roles all the time, but it must be wild for someone like Nicholas Hoult to know that you missed out on a part in one of the biggest TV shows of all time.

In a recent interview, Hoult revealed that he tried out for the part of Jon Snow in Game Of Thrones, but didn’t make the cut, possibly because he failed to look the part.

Speaking with Page Six at the Montclair Film Festival, the British actor said:

“I think I auditioned for Jon Snow. I remember it because I was filming Clash of the Titans at the time, so I had long hair extensions. They gave me a ponytail and also a very patchy fake tan. So I remember being like, ‘This is probably not what they’re hoping for,’ and it obviously wasn’t.”

He said that he watched season one of the show, but has not yet seen the rest, and is waiting until he’s “laid up in bed with the flu for couple days” to binge watch it, so no hard feelings, I guess.

Despite missing out on Thrones, Nicholas Hoult has had a varied and successful film career, appearing in such films as Mad Max: Fury Road and the recent run of X-Men films, in the role of Beast.

He is currently playing the lead role in Tolkein, a drama about the formative years of orphaned Lord Of The Rings author J.R.R. Tolkein.

After that, he’ll be starring in a movie adaptation of Peter Carey‘s novel The True History Of The Kelly Gang, alongside Russell Crowe and Charlie Hunnam.

The film, directed by Australia’s Justin Kurzel, will also star Claudia Karvan and Essie Davis.
