Scarlett Johansson continues her pursuit of that whole “music” thang in the new video for “Relator” – the Serge Gainsbourg inspired slow-burner starring musical collaborator and fellow indie dreamboat Pete Yorn.
As we previously reported the Johansson/Yorn (Johansson/Yawn?) collaboration takes inspiration from Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin’s “Je t’aime…moi non plus” also known as The Orgasm Song. Mmmm salacious.
We still think Scar Jo’s nasal enunciation is contrived but after murdering the music of Jeff Buckley and Tom Waits the coquettish croon of Relator is actually pretty palatable.
As their inspiration might suggest, the clip is a heady mix of sepia tones, longing looks, bed lounging and all manner of restrained sex appeal. Smart move Record Label, smart move. I guess the only thing left to say is let the battle for best duo featuring a much loved actress and critically acclaimed male collaborator begin. I only have room in my life for one of you.
