Netflix Continues Its Axe Rampage By Binning ‘Girlboss’ After One Season

Looks like Netflix have developed a bit of a bloodlust for axing shows. The next one on the chopping block is Girlboss, which is gawwwwn after just one season.

The show, based on the early life of Nasty Gal founder Sophie Amoruso, didn’t get the best reviews in the world by any stretch of the imagination. But considering Netflix’s lust for new original content and new shows, it’s interesting to see it thrown in the dustbin alongside Sense8 and The Get Down.
Amoruso herself expressed her annoyance at the cancellation via a series of Instagram Stories.
“So that Netflix series about my life got canceled,” she wrote, going on to say she’s not even that mad about it, she promises.

While I’m proud of the work we did, I’m looking forward to controlling my narrative from here on out. It was a good show, and I was privileged to work with incredible talent, but living my life as a caricature was hard even if only for two months. Yes, I can be difficult. No, I’m not a dick. No, someone named Shane never cheated on me. It will be nice to someday tell the story of what’s happened in the last few years. People read the headline, not the correction, I’ve learned.
CEO Reed Hastings said last month that the streaming service is going to be a lot more ruthless about the shows it cuts in future, without admitting that some of these shows might have gotten shit ratings. He says that it’s all about being daring and picking up home run shows like 13 Reasons Why, the surprise hit which dominated the television discourse for a few weeks.
Sorry to all the Girlboss fans out there, whoever you are. I’m sure Netflix will have 200 new shows precisely sculpted to your tastes before you know it.
