Neighbours Will Try Something New Tonight

Novelty is a terrible defence against irrelevancy (except in the case of Community who made it their M.O.) but we’re glad Neighbours is trying something new. For them! They’re trying something new for them.

Inspired by the minute-to-minute heroics of Kiefer Sutherland vehicle 24, tonight’s ep unfolds in “real time”, covering 30 consecutive minutes in the lives of Ramsay Street’s craziest residents. Cue lots of obligatory clock shots and rushing out the door and a bomb maybe? According to Digital Spy the episode will follow “a life-changing decision faced by Kate when she discovers that Brennan has to enter witness protection due to his involvement in a police corruption case. After hearing the news, Kate has just half an hour to decide whether she wants to leave with Brennan or stay behind on Ramsay Street.”

Whoa. No idea who Kate or Brennan are but when did Neighbours turn into Goodfellas? This should be interesting…or spectacularly trite…or landmark television?. We’ll have to wait and see.

Neighbours airs at 6:30pm tonight on Eleven.
