Meghan Markle To Break Royal Tradition, Walk Herself Halfway Down The Aisle

The gripping saga of who will walk Meghan Markle down the aisle has taken yet another turn, with the revelation that she will break with royal wedding tradition and proceed unaccompanied as she takes the first part of her walk through St. George’s Chapel.

Last night, it was reported that Markle had asked Prince Charles to walk her down the aisle, after her father Thomas pulled out, possibly due to a mixture of ill-health and embarrassment over his recent series of PR stunts.

While that’s true, it turns out that Charles will only accompany her part of the way – she’ll walk down the nave of the chapel alone, with bridesmaids and page boys following, before her future father-in-law meets her at the quire, which is around halfway.

It has also been reported that, when they reach the high altar at the front of the chapel, Charles will not give the bride away in a traditional sense, but will instead step back as she approaches Prince Harry on her own, effectively giving herself away.

CNN say that Meghan Markle, who will be the first royal bride to walk unaccompanied, came up with the plan herself, as a way to “assert herself as a strong, independent woman who is prepared to challenge royal norms.”

The Royal Wedding will air on Channel 7 from 6PM, Channel 9 from 7PM, ABC from 7:30PM, and SBS from 7:30PM as well.

Channel 10 will be airing a David Attenborough documentary at the same time, so if you want to telegraph the fact that you’re superior to those watching the royal wedding but still soak up something British, that may be your best bet.
