Meet The 2011 Tropfest Finalists

Yesterday Tropfest announced fifteen of their sixteen 2011 finalists including writer/actor Joel Edgeton, South Africa’s Ari Kruger (the only international finalist), Umbilical Brother David Collins, actor and NIDA alumni Damon Gameau and comedian and Hungry Beast presenter Dan Illic.

Impressive/varied field as always but what happened to the sixteenth finalist? That’s where you come in. For the first time in Tropfest history, the sixteenth and final finalist will be decided by a public vote with “ten great films that narrowly missed out” available to stream on the event’s official Youtube channel. Technology! Votes! Audience engagement! Youtube! Don’t take the decision lightly though, the film with the most votes will become an instant finalist and screen in front of thousands of cinemaphiles at locations all around Australia. We’ve embedded the wild cards below which range from ruminations on suburban ennui, brief but heartfelt character studies and one note jokes that become increasingly less funny as the film progresses. In other words, a microcosm of Tropfest entrants in general. Still, there are some real gems in the shortlist below. We can’t wait to see the finalists proper. Watch below…
