McDonald’s First Gay Television Ad

Culturally speaking, the French have always been a progressive group; they’ve played a significant role in pioneering modern art, cinema, fashion and cuisine. Obviously McDonald’s isn’t the most progressive (or French) of eateries, but for the first time the home of the ‘Royale with cheese’ in France has launched a television commercial featuring an openly gay character. The ad campaign’s tagline is is ‘Come as you are’ (‘Venez comme vous êtes’). Check it out now:

Obviously McDonald’s is making a statement with this commercial: the Big Mac isn’t just for the typical nuclear family – everyone is welcome to bask in the glow of the golden arches, which is a great message.

But is this actually a good ad – i.e. does it make you want to eat a Happy Meal?
Is McDonald’s more progressive than KFC?
Do they still make McDonald’s land cookies?
When did a 30 cent cone become 60 cents?
