‘Friends’ Star Matthew Perry Reveals He Just Spent Three Months In Hospital

Matthew Perry of Friends has revealed that he spent the last three months in hospital after undergoing surgery for a serious health condition.

The 49-year-old actor was fairly circumspect about his stay at a Los Angeles medical centre, simply saying “three months in a hospital bed, check” in a recent Tweet.

In fact, Perry underwent gastrointestinal surgery after suffering a perforated bowel, a condition which can be life-threatening, and surgery for which can be followed by various complications.

It is not clear whether he has been discharged from hospital, but a statement from his rep said: “He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals.”

Matthew Perry has been open about his health struggles in the past. While at the peak of his Friends fame in the late 1990s, he completed a course of rehab for addiction to painkillers.

He went into rehab again in 2001, for addictions to Vicodin, methadone, amphetamines and alcohol.

In more recent years, the actor opened Perry House, a sober living facility situated in his former house in upscale Malibu.

In 2013, he received a Champion of Recovery award from the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy for his efforts.
