Matthew Perry of Friends has hit back with a joke after recent paparazzi photos surfaced, in which some claimed that the beloved ’90s sitcom star looked “unrecognisable.”
Perry, who has not been photographed in nearly two years, recently stepped out in New York. He was sporting sweatpants and a stained t-shirt and had long, seemingly dirty fingernails.
When The Daily Mail ran the photos, the actor responded: “I’m getting a manicure this morning. That’s okay right? I mean it says man right in the word.”

Matthew Perry has been open about his struggles with drugs and alcohol in the past. He checked into rehab for painkiller addiction in 1997, and again in 2001, while filming his hit show.
In a 2016 interview, when asked about his favourite Friends episode, he revealed that there are at least three seasons he does not remember because he was “out of it.”
In 2018, he suffered a gastrointestinal perforation, and spent three months in bed recovering from surgery to repair the hole in his intestinal tract.
Matthew Perry was one of the biggest TV stars of the 1990s, but unlike his co-stars the actor now looks nothing like his Friends character. https://t.co/o2jjCYqjQ6 pic.twitter.com/SEO5SC1pwN

Earlier this year, fans were concerned when the star tweeted that he had been “kicked out of therapy.” The next day, he followed up with a tweet saying it was “just one session” and he was “back where I belong.”
