Matthew McConaughey Yearns For A Return To His ‘True Detective’ Space Cadet

Are you a fan of brooding, self-contained prestige dramas? The kind with dense plotting, odd-ball casting and the curse of having an impossibly fantastic first season?
Welp, True Detective fans, bad news first: HBO is, more than likely, postponing any more permutations of Nic Pizzolatto’s stunning series. It was revealed last month the show’s head honcho probs won’t be contributing any more occult goodness (or a moustachioed Colin Farrell).
For the time being, at least.

And the good news? The first season’s talismanic Matthew McConaughey took to the ostensibly sports-themed The Rich Eisen Show to have a yap about his Southern mystic Rust Cohle, and how bloody stoked McConaughey was to play that pessimistic bloke.

… And how he’s willing to get all flat-circley once more.

“I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights, I miss watching True Detective on Sunday nights.

I was a happy man when we made that. For six months. ‘Cause I was on my own island.”
What followed is probably (creepy, slide guitar) music to fans’ ears, as he told Eisen “I’ve talked to Nic about [continuing the story].”

“It’d have to be the right context, the right way. That thing, when I read it, I knew in 20 minutes ‘If I could play Rustin Cohle, I’m in.’”

While the finale of the first season was probably one of the most satisfying conclusions ever committed to film, we can’t say we’re not a lil’ excited at the concept of Matt and Woody Harrelson palling it up / hating each others’ guts once more.
