HBO Debuts “True Detective” Trailer Starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey

Jane Campion’s dread and forests whodunnit? Top Of The Lake may not be perfect, there’s a sense of dissonance between its hastily drawn conclusion and the alluring promise of its introduction, but its impact on television will be felt in two significant ways. 1) The creative differences between those who make film and those who make television will become even more obvious – there is none. And 2) The mini-series as a medium will enjoy a renaissance.

Both are in full effect in the superb first trailer for HBO’s forthcoming procedural drama series True Detective, written by American novelist Nic Pizzolatto and helmed by American Jane Eyre director Cary Fukunaga. One Bradley Cooper short of Hollywood’s tan dude-jock trifecta, real life best friends Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey star as gloomy state detectives – one smart, one steady, the trailer tells us – chasing a serial killer across Louisiana over the course of almost two decades.

The series will be comprised of eight one hour episodes and premiere sometime in January on HBO.

We’re totally willing to go in blind on this one…it looks spectacular.
