Back in the glory days of The Simpsons, the lack of social media uproar—following a leaked plot point—made for much simpler viewing. Maud dies? You found out by watching the freaking episode, not decrying it on Twitter months before it even happened, after Al Jean lets the decision slip online.
But these aren’t the glory days, and the news that Homer and Marge would be on the knife’s edge of divorce in an upcoming episode, and constructing a love triangle with a Lena Dunham-voiced pharmacist, spread like wildfire.
Even if the split is to only last one episode – people branded it as the final twist of the dagger for a show gradually jumping the shark.
This Simpsons announced that Homer and Marge will divorce during the upcoming season in an episode titled “We’re Officially Out of Ideas”

But today, producers were forced to go to the effort of addressing the news that got garbled by the internet into something it wasn’t, by having Marge and Homer put an end to the rumours themselves.
