The Huge Mad Max: Fury Road Prequel Is Set To Film In NSW Ft. Chris Hemsworth (!) & Anya Taylor-Joy (!!)

Mad Max Furiosa

Folks, MORE Hollywood stars are about to flock to our shores because Furiosa, the long-awaited prequel to George Miller‘s Mad Max: Fury Road, will be filmed in NSW.

Furiosa is expected to become the biggest film ever made in Australia, with a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth (the mighty Thor), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit), and Yahya Abdul Mateen II (Watchmen). Big names already, hey?

The prequel film is based on Charlize Theron‘s Imperator Furiosa character from Fury Road, with Taylor-Joy playing a younger version of the character.

The movie is huge news for our film industry and is expected to bring in a cool $350 million into the NSW economy, plus create more than 850 local jobs.

Furiosa is set to film in a slew of locations across NSW, including Western Sydney and regional NSW in June. Might I casually find myself loitering around Western Sydney around that time? Perhaps.

Director George Miller said he’s stoked to see the Mad Max franchise return to Australian shores to film. The bulk of the franchise was shot Down Under, while 2015’s Fury Road was mostly filmed in Namibia, Southern Africa.

In a statement, Miller thanked the Berejiklian Government, Screen Australia, Screen NSW, and the Federal and NSW Governments for their support.

“They made it possible for the film to be greenlit, shot in Australia and for the production to be based in our home state,” Miller said.

Furiosa is slated for release in 2023.

Mad Max: Fury Road copped 10 Academy Award nominations in 2016 and won six, including for Production Design (of course), Sound Mixing and Editing, Costume Design (of course, of course), Hair and Makeup (of course x 3), and Film Editing.

The film co-starred Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy, and Nicolas Hoult to name just three actors from the impressive cast. You can find it streaming now on Stan.

Extremely keen to see Chris Hemsworth fuck shit up (some more).

Meanwhile, on his Instagram.

Dads on tour!!!

Hemsworth is filming Thor: Love And Thunder in NSW, alongside a bunch of Hollywood actors.

The next instalment in the Thor franchise is directed by Taika Waititi, and co-stars Tessa ThompsonNatalie PortmanChristian BaleJeff Goldblum (I assume so since he was spotted with the crew at an NRL match recently), Chris Pratt, and Matt Damon.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit cinemas May 6, 2022.
