In what could be the most devastating One Direction news since the band’s hiatus, Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole have announced that their epic romance has come to an end.

This isn’t a “vague insiders allegedly said”-type story – we’ve actually got confirmation direct from the source.

Cheryl penned the following heartbreaking tweet this morning:

Payne, who is nine years younger than Cole, also shared the following tweet about their split:

A pal also confirmed the news via The Sun.

“Cheryl and Liam worked really hard on their relationship – they had troubles earlier this year and were able to get through them.”

“But they’re in different stages of their lives and, after a lot of careful thought, came to a decision that it’s best for everyone if they do go their separate ways.”

“He still cares for her and she cares for him. They still have an ongoing relationship together. They have a baby together.”

“Both Cheryl and Liam have successful careers that take a lot of time, which didn’t always make things easy. There were ups and downs for a long time.”

The pair first met when Liam auditioned for the UK X Factor while Chez was a judge back in 2008. They ~officially~ started dating in late 2015/early 2016 and the Girls Aloud singer was pregnant by November.

She gave birth to the pair’s adorable son Bear Payne on March 22 2017 and sparked engagement rumours on V-Day of this year after being spotted rocking a big fat diamond ring.

Directioners are understandably in mourning following the earth-shattering update…
