Okay so here’s a yarn that non-gamers with a gamer partner can totally relate to: apparently Liam Payne‘s love of gaming is what led to his and Cheryl Cole‘s breakup.
According to The Daily Star, the One Direction singer’s obsession with his Xbox drove a wedge between the pair, prompting Cole to impose a gaming ban.
When Payne broke the ban, the Girls Aloud singer allegedly flew into a fit of rage and destroyed his gaming console.
“Cheryl loved playing on the Xbox with Liam when they first started going out,” an insider told the publication.
“She tried to ban him from playing it, the final straw was apparently when she went mental about it and chucked it across the room.”
“Liam loves to escape like other guys do, play online with the lads and all that, but by the end it was the Xbox or Cheryl.”
The source added that following the split, Liam is now back online playing FIFA, Call Of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. All’s well that ends well, I always say!
Just to recap: last week the pair, who had been dating for two and a half years and share a one-year-old son together, announced that they had called it quits.
We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It’s been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.

The pair first met when Liam auditioned for the UK X Factor while Chez was a judge back in 2008. They ~officially~ started dating in late 2015/early 2016 and Cole was pregnant by November.
She gave birth to the pair’s adorable son Bear Payne on March 22 2017 and sparked engagement rumours on V-Day of this year after being spotted rocking a big fat diamond ring.
During a recent appearance on Loose Women, Cole’s former bandmate and best friend Nicola Roberts said that the singer is “doing good” following the breakup and we can only assume that Payne is finding solace in his Xbox.
