Aussie breakfast television is pretty tame, leaving aside the odd occasion when old mate Karl Stefanovic rocks up to work feeling extra jolly after a heavy session at the Logies.
Meek and mild as it usually is, our version of morning TV resembles Mad Max: Fury Road compared with America’s, where the mere utterance of a naughty word can derail the whole show.
Case in point, the below video of Lena Dunham, who casually uttered the word “penis” while promoting the sixth and final season of Girls on the US Today show, sending hosts Maria Shriver and Matt Lauer into a mini-meltdown.
While we’d assume that Today’s target audience wouldn’t be hella keen on a show where Allison Williams gets her ass eaten out at the kitchen sink, Lena may have awakened some latent penis thirst in curious viewers.
Presumably somebody got a stern talking-to after this cock-up. Enjoy:
