Kreayshawn Totally Got Catfished By A Fake Diplo

Welp. This happened. Turns out even lower mid-card one hit rap wonders are susceptible to getting duped now and then. Remember Kreayshawn? Apparently she’d been having a pretty intimate e-mail exchange with Diplo over a number of years. Except, as it turns out, it wasn’t really Diplo, and Kreay was getting catfished particularly hard. Where the hell is Nev Schulman when you need him?

The whole ordeal began back in 2009. Kreayshawn and her pals made a video which was then posted to a fan blog for Mad Decent – you know, the record label run by Diplo. Shortly thereafter she got an email from “Diplo” and the relationship bloomed from there. For three or so years they kept up the email correspondence; occasionally “Diplo” would send Kreay a pic of his Major Lazer and unsuccessfully ask for a shot of her Gucci Gucci in return, if you catch my drift. This lasted until around 2011ish.
So when Kreayshawn revisited the old Gmail account that had the offending emails in it, she sent one to the real Diplo via a Twitter DM to reminisce. Diplo, obviously, had absolutely no fucking idea what she was talking about, and insisted the photos weren’t from him – apparently he has a distinctive tattoo around that particular area and we’ve no idea how he proved that to her.
Poor, simple Kreay was understandably floored. After all, she’d previously met Diplo in the IRL and somehow managed to completely miss the giant, enormous red flag when Fakelo told her in emails that he might act like “brand new” when she met him due to the fact he had a girlfriend. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.
It’s not all bad news for the fake Diplo though, as Kreay explained that whoever it was on the other end was responsible for giving her the encouragement she needed to pack up and move to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of being an almost-rap star.
So given that this mystery person is more-or-less to blame for her entire career, and depending on how you feel about Kreayshawn, they’re either partly responsible for a really nice rags-to-riches story, or they have a hell of a lot of explaining to do.
