Lamar Odom remains hospitalised in Las Vegas after a suspected drug overdose at a Nevada brothel, and while there are conflicting reports as to his condition, estranged wife Khloe Kardashian has claimed he is responsive to communication.
Various outlets are speculating as to the state of Odom’s recovery, with Entertainment Tonight claiming that he “opened his eyes” and said “yes” when asked if he wanted to see his children, and NBC News saying he is “off life support.”
Most of this information comes from shady “sources” within the hospital; the only current update with an actual name attached comes from USA Today, who spoke with Odom’s college basketball coach Jim Harrick.
Harrick, a close friend and mentor to Odom since his days at Rhode Island University, has been in touch with Khloe Kardashian via text, and told the publication:
“She reached down and said ‘you know I love you’ and he kind of nodded. Three or four days after being scared to death and fearing the worst, that is a little hope, a little progress. She texted me that (information).”
Gossip monsters TMZ claim, on the word of further “unnamed sources” within the hospital that Odom’s body movements, including eye opening, are “all involuntary”, although his heart function is “much better.”
As to the question of whether Odom is breathing unaided, they claimed:
“We’re told doctors are putting him back on the ventilator and used [an oxygen mask] as a test, and they plan on going back and forth to see if Lamar would be able to breathe without heavy life support.”
While separated, Khloe and Lamar’s divorce is not yet finalised, meaning she is still able to make medical decisions on his behalf.
Earlier this week, authorities released audio of three 911 calls from Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch, the brothel where Odom was found unconscious and foaming at the mouth.
The calls indicated that he had used cocaine and Viagra over the course of a three-day period there; if the venue is found to have supplied Odom with the Viagra or to be guilty of any other wrong-doing, it is faced with the loss of its license.
