Kevin Spacey For President, Playing Another One In ‘Nixon & Presley’

When you’ve struck gold, why go digging elsewhere?

*HOUSE OF CARDS SPOILER ALERT*

Kevin Spacey is set to play another US President, only this time, he’ll be playing a real one: Richard Nixon.

Amazon Studios is finalising a $4 million deal as we speak to pick up the film ‘Elvis & Nixon‘, about the infamous meeting of Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon at the White House in 1970.

One fateful December morning, Elvis Presley rocked up to the White House and requested an urgent meeting with the President, asking him – I shit you not – to swear him in as an undercover agent in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS SHIT UP. Which I guess is why they’re making a movie about it.

Michael Shannon (Oscar nominee and also one time bit player in ‘Groundhog Day‘) plays The King, while other casts members include Evan Peters, Alex Pettyfer, Tate Donovan, Colin Hanks, Johnny Knoxville, Sky Ferrieria, and Poppy Delevingne as a stewardess.

The Amazon deal will see production house Bleeker Street responsible for theatrical distribution, with Amazon coming in at the end and chucking it up online. (Not 100% yet on what this means for Australian audiences. Sorry. We’ll get there, okay?)

Amazon’s model is more ingrained with the traditional ‘theatres-first, dvd-second’ used by than, say, Netflix, which has a fuck you, chuck everything up online, no really put all the things up there attitude, which is awesome for the consumer but less so for the film producers.

There’s no release date yet, but we’ll keep you posted as and when. Meanwhile, two month old news that Kevin Spacey is producing TV show ‘The Residence‘, about the relationships between the White House first families and the butlers, housekeepers, and chauffeurs who serve them, is currently doing the rounds in Australian media.

It’s Kevin’s world, we’re all just livin’ in it.
