Keira Knightley In F. Scott Fitzgerlad Adaptation

Keira Knightley is tipped to star in two film adaptations of novels by (arguably) the greatest writer from Jazz Age America, F. Scott Fitzgerald: Tender Is The night and The Beautiful and Damned.

Knightley is no stranger to ‘heritage’ style cinema (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, etc) and has pulled off some good performances recently, but Fitzgerald is practically sacred to Americans and the idea of an English actress playing these iconic American literary characters (particularly Gloria Patch from The Beautiful and Damned who is based on Fitzgerald’s southern belle wife Zelda Fitzgerald) might be a bit hard to swallow. Not to mention that Keira Knightley has never really played a role with an American accent.

No film maker has really succeeded in capturing any of Fitzgerald’s novels in a movie. I’d like to see Curtis Hanson (LA Confidential) or Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood) have a crack though…
