Sam & Juliet’s Ridic Age Difference In ‘Love Actually’ Might Ruin The Movie For You

love actually

There are few festive movies that divide people more than Love Actually.

On the one hand, there are those people, like myself, who absolutely froth it. Nothing makes me feel more festive than watching Hugh Grant shimmy his way down the halls of 10 Downing Street:

Then there are the people who dislike the move and are, by default, clearly fucking wrong.

Anyway, no matter what side of the fence you come down on, the Internet mutually agrees that the age difference between actors who plays Juliet and Sam is just kinda screwed up.

Of course, we all recognise Keira Knightley, who plays the banoffee pie-lovin’ bride, and the ginger drummer boy, Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

But did you know that Keira was only 17 when they filmed Love Actually, meanwhile Thomas was 13??

That’s right, these actors were only FOUR YEARS APART and now everything just feels kind of broken.

Just like you, Twitter is deeply shook by this news:

“Struggling to get over the fact that the little kid that played Sam in Love Actually is only 5 years younger than Keira Knightley in real life. shocked”

“Just found out Keira Knightley was 17 when she filmed Love Actually and Thomas Brodie-Sangster was 13. There’s only a 4 year difference between the two of them, shocked.”

“Keira Knightley in Love Actually is only 5 years older than the little boy Sam that plays in the school band for the american girl if that doesn’t come as a shock nothing will.”

“How was Keira Knightley only 5 years older than little Sam in love actually.”

“Here’s a Christmas ruiner – Keira Knightley was 17 when Love Actually was shot. She was a child bride.”

“Keira Knightley was 17 in Love Actually ! i’m NOTHING.”

Then, just when you thought you could almost come to terms with this age gap, Twitter goes and reveals that Juliet’s love interest, Mark, was played by 29-year-old Andrew Lincoln:

“Hi, I’m here to ruin everyone’s favorite christmas film with facts: Keira Knightley was 17 at the time of filming Love Actually. Andrew Lincoln was 29. Now, I bet the characters were older but that famous scene gets real creepy when you think about a 29 y/o courting a 17 y/o.”

Welp. Way to go and ruin my favourite movie of all time, Twitter.
