Jane Fonda Accepting A BAFTA While Being Led Away In Handcuffs Is My Mood For The Week

Jane Fonda

Yesterday, Jane Fonda was arrested for the third week in a row while protesting climate change in Washington, and while doing so, she also managed to set the new standard for accepting an award.

The veteran actress was invited to attend the British Academy of Film and Television ArtsLos Angeles celebration on Friday night, local time, but quite obviously had prior commitments.

Fonda was given the Stanley Kubrick Brittania Award for Excellence in Film, and she recorded her acceptance at the protest, while in zip-tie handcuffs.

“Thank you! I’m sorry I’m not there!” she shouted, as she was led away by a police officer. You can watch the incredible moment unfold below:

In a recent video for the Fire Drill Fridays movement, Jane Fonda declared that she had decided to “upend” her life and move to D.C. for four months of climate change protests.

“We have to behave like our house is on fire, because it is,” she said, adding that she plans to get arrested every week in the name of civil disobedience.

Amongst other things, the Fire Drill Fridays protesters are calling for clean, renewable energy by 2030 as well as a ban on fossil fuel exploration and drilling.

She was arrested alongside The Good Place star Ted Danson at Friday’s protest, and the week before that, with her Grace & Frankie co-star Sam Waterston.
