It’s Here: Juicy New Case For ‘Serial’ Podcast’s Second Season Leaked

The most successful podcast of all time—NPR’s incredibly gripping Serial, which, ICYMI, you must binge immediately—gifted fans with the news of two follow-up seasons in the works, confirming that they would indeed depart from the much maligned case of Anan Syed, and the murder of Hae Min Lee.

What would the soothing timbres of Sarah Koenig interrogate next? A singular investigation into Asia McClain? The history of Mail…Kimp? With radio silence on their social networks for the past few months, fans had been left in the dark, until a report from Maxim exclusively uncovered what could be the highly-anticipated subject of Serial Season 2.

While neither NPR, Serial nor Koenig have confirmed Maxim’s claims that have since spread wildly in the past few hours, Maxim reports that Serial will soon focus on US Sargeant Bowe Bergdahl: the solider who infamously disappeared in Afghanistan 2009, with conflicting accounts into the nature of his actions – AKA, ripe for a Serial-esque investigation.

Maxim reports that Sarah Koenig was spotted at a recent hearing of Bergdahl’s case; the evidence, however, is presented fairly tenuously, as Maxim writes:

“According to someone present at the hearing, Serial host Sarah Koenig and at least one of the show’s producers were in spotted in the courtroom.”

Maxim also claims that screenwriter Mark Boal—of Zero Dark Thirty fame—was also present at the hearing, reigniting rumours that Boal’s production company Page One is also eyeing off Bergdahl’s story as a potential adaptation for the big screen.

Serial producer Emily Cordon did not confirm the subject of Serial’s second or third season, and took aim at Maxim for their speculative report.

“We’d very much appreciate if fellow journalists would give us some room and not feel the need to attempt to dig into and try to figure out what you think we might be doing, especially since we’re actively reporting stories, and having a bunch of wild speculation out there makes our job reporting harder. Doesn’t feel very menschy.”

Regardless of its subject matter, Serial season 2 is coming. :’) :’)
