Hollywood, Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Family Mourn The Passing Of “One Of The Greatest Actors Of A Generation”

The shock of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s tragic passing today from an apparent heroin overdose has been writ large on Twitter this morning, with the actor’s contemporaries, colleagues and friends alike mourning and celebrating Hoffman’s life and exceptional career in equal measure.

As one of his generation’s greatest actors, Hoffman, 46 – pictured above with director Anton Corbin and A Most Wanted Man co-stars Willem Dafoe and Rachel McAdams – leaves behind a number of projects in varying stages of development, including his first lead role in a television series for Showtime’s Happyish, his second directorial effort Ezekial Moss, and the final two parts of the Hunger Games franchise – filming for which was scheduled to wrap in week’s time and in which he plays a crucial role.
More important than any film credit however is the role he played as a father to the three young children he had with costume designer Mimi O’Donnell – Cooper, 11, Tallulah, 7, and Willa, 6. His family have issued the following incredibly sad statement: “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”
