Here’s What Critics Think Of The Interview

For those who didn’t check the Internet yesterday, Sony decided to rock it for the free world and release The Interview online – well, mostly to America, but you get the vibe – just to stick it to whoever has been hacking them for the last month. It was probably a good PR move, seeing as nobody has anything to do on Christmas, but what they didn’t count on was critics getting onto YouTube to stream the film at the same time as punters. Here’s a slice of the film where Eminem apparently admits that he’s a homosexual (ten points for the straight face.)

The reviews have started to come in pretty darn fast, and they’re not entirely positive. The film is currently sitting at a woeful 32% on film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes,  with some choice lines coming from the stalwarts of the industry. Here’s a few of our favourites:
‘An evening of cinematic waterboarding’ and ‘about as funny as a communist food shortage’ – Variety.
‘Think SNL on a really bad night’ – The Wall Street Journal
Trips itself up on threads of its contrived absurdity’ – Village Voice
It’s not all bad though. Rolling Stone called it ‘effing hilarious’, and many of the outlets, including Time Out and The Playlist have singled out actor Randall Park for his apparently realistic portrayal of Kim Jong-un. They would know this, of course, having all met him numerous times, just like Dennis Rodman.
Still no word on Australian release, but word on the street is that the torrent store is open for trading on Boxing Day
