Harrison Ford Will Star In The Long-Awaited ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel

Better start prepping for your next Voight-Kampff test, kids. Harrison Ford is now officially on board to bring a long-awaited sequel to the almighty Blade Runner to life.

Inarguably the greatest sci-fi film of all time (fight me), Ridley Scott‘s 1982 neo-noir masterpiece based on the equally brilliant Philip K. Dick novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” famously went through seemingly endless different versions and cuts of the film based on a constant push-and-pull between the director and the studio – with things finally settling once and for all back in 2007 with Scott’s “Final Cut” which is proving to be the quintessential version of the film as time goes on.
The sequel itself has been long mooted, with Ford stating that a script for it was “the best thing I’ve ever read.” And so Ford signing back on to reprise the role of Rick Deckard isn’t in and of itself very surprising.
What is something of a turn up is the fact that Ridley Scott will not be directing the new film. Instead, French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve will take the reigns, following on from a string of highly critically acclaimed films like Prisoners, Enemy, and the Academy Award nominated Incendies.
As far as plot goes, we know that the new film will take place several decades after the original. But obviously beyond that, little plot details are know at this extremely early stage.
Scott will stay on as a producer of the film, whose script was written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green.
If it follows the same pattern as the original, you can expect people to be thoroughly confused by it upon its release, and then finally recognised as a true cinematic masterpiece in the decades to follow.
