Guy Sebastian has answered the question that absolutely nobody in Australia was asking, saying that he went on “a few dates” with his Voice co-star Delta Goodrem back in the day.
Speaking about his love life on tonight’s episode of 60 Minutes, the singer told Tom Steinfort that he briefly went out with Goodrem after his rise to fame on Australian Idol in 2003.
Assuming Guy Sebastian is actually being truthful – and I mean, who knows? – this would mean that they dated before Delta’s relationships with Mark Philippoussis and Brian McFadden.
“It was actually the first thing I said to Jules when we got back together,” he said, of his breakup with Jules Egan, who he went on to marry. “I said, just so you know, I went on a few dates with Delta.”
He elaborated a little more in an interview with The Daily Telegraph, saying of their time together:
“It was a bit odd. I’m a family man and Delta is so happy in her life. Even if it’s all in jest, I don’t want to contribute to making Delta look bad. She’s been nothing but so kind and sweet to me. And there really is no story there. We identified early on we’re just good mates. That’s why we’re still good mates.”
Guy Sebastian rose to fame when he beat Shannon Noll to win the first season of Australian Idol. He represented Australia at Eurovision in 2015, and this year is his first as a judge on The Voice.
Delta Goodrem has not made any comment on whether she did or did not date Guy, but this is as good an excuse as any to watch the greatest YouTube video of all time:
