Grand Theft Auto V Gameplay Trailer Released

Gone are the days of Grand Theft Auto being a game purely confined to hijacking cars and inexplicably shooting innocent passer-by’s; having a freaking fantastic time cruising through the city in your stolen ride on a crazed rampage, while listening to a soothing jazz radio station to accompany your intense, violent outbursts in a Winding Refn/Drive style of jarring irony.

Rockstar has just released a five minute gameplay trailer for their highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V—due to be released later this year on the new PS4 and XBox One consoles—revealing its sprawling, complex narrative.  A narration of the gameplay trailer lets us know that the game will be “a satirical re-imagining of modern Southern California,” and will cover “mountains and oceans, expensive stores and strip malls, urban decay and untouched wilderness, beaches and backwoods, the sublime and the ridiculous, greed and hypocrisy.”

The game follows three anti-hero protagonists: Michael, a former bank robber; “street hustler” Franklin and Trevor, who we see stuffing a body down a toilet.

They don’t mention hijacking cars or killing prostitutes, but we’ll assume everyone’s favourite GTA indulgences will remain, among a wealth of new offerings: “Cars to customize, planes to fly, clothes to buy, sports to play, nirvanas to pursue, oceans to dive, animals to spot, hunt, and be hunted by, freaks to watch, meet, and befriend, bounties to hunt, and on and on.”

Watch the sleek gameplay trailer below that fans are already frothing over. As one YouTube commenter delicately put it, “I had multiple orgasms watching this video.”
