Game Of Thrones Actors’ Dancing Ability Ranked By Kristian Nairn Aka Hodor

Belfast-based EDM DJ, World of Warcraft tragic and the Game Of Thrones player least likely to forget his lines, Kristian Nairn aka Hodor, is now in our midst for a six date run of GoT inspired club shows starting in Sydney tonight. The tour, Rave Of Thrones, marks Nairn’s second appearance in the country this year following a cameo appearance a few months back as a guy who will absolutely not give you a piggyback at the Melbourne leg of Oz Comic-Con. We caught up with Nairn to discuss his weirdest DJ gigs ever, surreal fan interactions and the show’s most gifted dancers. So then, have his cast mates seen him DJ before?
“Yes they have,” he tells us. “Many times.”

“There’s a place called the Kremlin in Belfast.” he says. “It’s a gay bar, probably one of the biggest clubs in town. It’s a safe environment for them. They don’t get hassled nearly as much as they would in other venues. So they’ve often gone there to see me DJ. I’ve seen all of them party. I’ve seen them swinging their handbags. I’ve seen them dancing around their handbags. And that’s not just the girls.”

So who’s the best dancer in Westeros?

“Finn Jones who plays Ser Loras is number one” he says. “Finn’s a very free spirit. He’s also a DJ. It’s an interesting procedure watching him dance.”

“Then I would say Gwendoline Christie who plays Brienne,” he continues. “She suffers from the same thing that I do when you see her on the dancefloor because she’s like 6’5” and she wears these massive heels. So that’s all you see on the dancefloor. I know how that feels because I walk through dancefloors heads and shoulders above everyone else. She’s amazing, always good fun.”

He nominates a third. “And Alfie Allen [The Crumpled Human Husk previously known as Theon Greyjoy],” he says. “I’ve seen him bust some interesting moves. He can really get interpretative.”

And…here are a few other things we learned.

HE’LL DJ AT YOUR WEDDING IF YOU ASK NICELY
“I played a wedding once. I never wanted to be a wedding DJ but I used to do this underground all nighter called Event Horizon and these regulars came up to me and were like, ‘we’re getting married, we’d like you to play at our wedding and we want you to play exactly what you play here.’ Which was really tough electro and progressive house. I got there and all the young people were loving it but it was a wedding so all these parents were there, too. ‘Do have Garth Brooks?’ No I do not have Garth Brooks. ‘Do you have Dolly Parton?’. No I do not. There was definitely a bit of a clash going on there. The people who had hired me insisted that I play what I normally would and the parents were like ‘we can’t dance to this,’ and I was like ‘have a few shots and you’ll love it.’”

HIS STRANGEST FAN EXPERIENCE WAS SEEING HIMSELF AS A WOMAN
“Recently I went to a convention in London and there was a girl who was dressed up as a female version of Hodor. And you know what? It was damn good. If someone had told me someone was going to do that I’d have no idea what to expect or visualise. But it really worked. That was kind of surreal. Seeing things you recognise about yourself in a woman. She made a really good job of it.

GEORGE R.R. MARTIN IS EXACTLY AS YOU’D IMAGINE HE’D BE
“He’s a great guy. Very funny. He’s got a dry sense of humour. Quite a dark edge to him which shouldn’t surprise anyone. He has told me nothing. And I have asked. We all ask actually. He never tells us anything. But it has to be that way because if he ever told me anything there’s no way I could keep it to myself.”
