Friday Is Name Your Price Slurpee Day, And It’s All For Charity

Real talk, Australia fucking loves a Slurpee. It’s almost as much a part of our national fabric as a charred snag in bread with the cricket on the radio, or a shower beer after a hard day’s work, or calling the Prime Minister a dickhead. It’s just a part of who we are.

What we also know to be true about ourselves is that we love a good bargain, and we love lending a helping hand to those in need.
And as luck would have it, this Friday presents everyone with an opportunity to combine all three of those things in one sweet, sugar-laden hit.
The ingenious folk at 7-Eleven, in their eternal frozen wisdom, have decreed this Friday to be Name Your Price Slurpee Day, with all proceeds going to charity.
Good Friday? More like GREAT Friday!
And yes, that means exactly what you think it does. Rock up to your local 7-Eleven, pour yourself out a big cup of delicious frosty goodness, and toss the nice bloke/gal behind the counter whatever amount of money you see fit – and every single cent of that will go to children’s hospitals across the country. How mad is that? Heaps. It is heaps mad.
If you feel particularly charitable and want to slam down a crisp pineapple to give some adorable little mates who aren’t feeling too crash hot a bit of a boost? Go for it, you beautiful legends. If you’ve only got a few 5 cent pieces clanging around in your pocket? Hey, that’s totally cool too. Every little cent helps, and you get a delicious pile of syrupy snow as a thank you. It’s really that simple.
The money will be divvied up to the kids hospital in your state, meaning that in Victoria all money goes to the Good Friday Appeal, in New South Wales it’s the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation, in Queensland you’ve got the Children’s Hospital Foundation, in WA it’s the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, and in the ACT the Canberra Hospital Foundation will be feeling the love.
So there you go! You’d be silly not to, really. Besides, it’s a public holiday! Grab a cold one, put your feet up, and take heart in the knowledge you helped do some good that day.
