Ewan McGregor Will Be Forced To Hang Out In Perth Next Year

Ewan McGregor’s navigated Glasgow toilet bowls and Tatooine shanty towns, but for his next film, he’ headed to Perth. The 41 year old Scotsman has been cast in the upcoming Australian crime thriller, Son of a Gun, written and directed by first time feature filmmaker, Julius Avery. The film, to be shot in Perth and Kalgoorlie, Western Australia in early 2013, focuses on an Australian master criminal (McGregor) who takes on an apprentice, presumably to fetch him coffee, hand him dynamite or high-five him after a successful train robbery.

Keeping in line with the only type of films getting made in Australia these days (see: David Michod’s Animal Kingdom, Justin Kurzel’s Snowtown, Amiel Courtin-Wilson’s Hail and Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly) Altitude Film Sales managing director Mike Runagall has described the project as combining the “tension and intensity of Animal Kingdom,” with the “the epic sweep of Heat.”
