Everyone Wants George RR Martin To Kill Them

Game Of Thrones creator George RR Martin‘s campaign to raise money for two charities has been open for all of one day, and already it’s smashed through its funding goals.
That might have something to do with the benefits that come with pledging money to the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and Santa Fe Food Depot: the grand prize is the chance to chill with GRRM himself, taste his home-made salsa (defs not a euphemism) and take a helicopter ride down to the wolf sanctuary. Some of the perks for large pledges are also fairly spectacular: $4500 nets you a signed copy of the Game of Thrones S01E01 script, signed by the cast and crew; $7500 snags the author’s actual hat; and $20,000 gets a character named after you in the next book (which Martin promises will die a “grisly death”).
Too bad if you actually wanted any of those things, though, because they’re all already long gone. In a statement on his LiveJournal (LOL) George RR Martin said:
“The response to our fund-raising campaign on Prizeo has been nothing less than mind-boggling. One day into the campaign, the original $150,000 goal and the subsequent $200,000 goal have both been met and surpassed. As I type, donations stand at $231,000, and we have raised the goal to $400,000. And we still have 58 days to go!”
It’s now at $309,661 and counting. Excellent work, GOT fans.
