American Horror Story has been promising that this season would be election-themed, and the newly-released opening sequence for ‘Cult‘ absolutely makes good on that promise.
It includes extremely Purge-like masks of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, which are only slightly less disturbing than the real things.
Here’s the intro, but a word of warning: people with trypophobia (a fear of small holes or bumps) should go absolutely no where near it.
Co-creator Ryan Murphy has been teasing the election-themed season for a while now, but was forced to clarify at one point that the key players of the 2016 U.S. election would not actually be in it.
“I think people literally think Sarah Paulson is playing Hillary Clinton, and I wanted to clarify that that is not true.”
Instead, he described the election as a “jumping off point” to something larger in the 11-part season, airing September 5.
AHS veterans Paulson, Evan Peters, Adina Porter, Cheyenne Jackson, Frances Conroy, Mare Winningham, Emma Roberts and Chaz Bono are returning for the season, alongside newcomers Billie Lourd, Billy Eichner, Leslie Grossman, Colton Haynes, Alison Pill and Lena Dunham.
This thing is looking utterly fucked, tbh, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
