Dr Who’s Matt Smith will sing, dance and murder his way through the lead role of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho: The Musical, coming to Broadway at the end of this year. The soon-to-be-regenerated Doctor will make his final Whovian appearances in the show’s yearly Christmas special, to be replaced by The Thick Of It’s Peter Capaldi.
Bret Easton Ellis‘ modern day parable of greed, consumerism and axes to the face was brought to life by Christian Bale in the movie adaptation of American Psycho, directed by Mary Harron in 2000. The team behind the musical turned to Kickstarter to gather the funds needed to get the project off the ground, and raised over $150,000 in 30 days. One of the original songs has been released already, but we’d be very disappointed if the score didn’t feature killing-spree soundtrack material from the likes of Whitney Houston, Phil Collins-era Genesis and of course, Huey Lewis and the News.
