The ‘Downton Abbey’ Movie Might Cop A Sequel & Just Bring Back The Show You Cowards

Downton Abbey

It’s been days since Downton Abbey, the movie, hit the big screen around the world and already there’s talks of a sequel. And not just rumours either, the team behind the film are actually thinking about another one.

Better yet, bring back the series. I cannot get enough of Downton, I bloody froth it.

Producer Gareth Neame told The Hollywood Reporter that the team has the “beginnings of ideas of what we might do next – if that would happen.”

Considering we’re currently in the Reboot, Remake, R-Sequel Era, I say another flick is definitely in the cards.

Series creator Julian Fellowes said he’s waiting to see how well the movie does before making any decisions.

“I just feel I have to wait for the public’s response to the movie and see, did they really like it? Has it gone well?” he told THR. “It’s a combination of the [box office, audience buzz] all of it, to be honest, and then you get a picture of whether this movie landed. I think you can get a sense of whether it worked or not. And if we do get that sense, then we will have that conversation.”

The Downton Abbey movie continues the saga of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them as they prepare for a royal visit from King George and Queen Mary.

Beloved favourites Maggie SmithHugh Bonneville, Matthew Goode, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Joanne Froggatt, Imelda Staunton, Elizabeth McGovern, Penelope Wilton, and Allen Leech all reprise their roles.

The flick currently holds a 81% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes which is pretty bloody good if you ask me. It could’ve gone way worse for a TV to movie project. Re: Sex and the City 2.

IndieWire had this to say about it:

Was the return to the Crawleys and their staff worth it? Yes, because the movie is an elaborately wrought labour of love that is everything that “Downton” fans could want — short of another season — and every penny can be seen onscreen.

Also, in case you missed my yarn yesterday the actual Downton Abbey castle, Highclere Castle, is on Airbnb now.

Downton Abbey is in cinemas now.
